Shada Cover Art Revealed

The cover art for the novelisation of Douglas Adams abandoned Dr Who story Shada has been released and it's kinda a boring looking cover.  Here is a description of Shada for those newer Who fans who don't know what it's all about.

The Doctor’s old friend and fellow Time Lord Professor Chronotis has retired to Cambridge University – where nobody will notice if he lives for centuries. But now he needs help from the Doctor, Romana and K-9. When he left Gallifrey he took with him a few little souvenirs – most of them are harmless. But one of them is extremely dangerous.

The Worshipful and Ancient Law of Gallifrey isn’t a book for Time Tots. It is one of the Artefacts, dating from the dark days of Rassilon. It must not be allowed to fall into the wrong hands. And the sinister Skagra most definitely has the wrong hands. He wants the book. He wants to discover the truth behind Shada. And he wants the Doctor’s mind…

Robert Kirkman Teases Whats Coming Up For The Second Half Of Series 2 Of The Walking Dead

Fans of The Walking Dead will be anxiously waiting the second half of series 2 but in the mean time here is something to tide you over.

All kinds of awesome stuff. These people are going to be pitted against each other now. Hershel's been keeping these walkers a secret and now they find out that Sophia's been in the barn the whole time. Shane isn't going to suddenly calm down. That's something I should probably point out. I mean, he was pretty angry there at the end of this episode. He was probably a little shocked by Sophia coming out of the barn but I wouldn't expect him to put his gun down and be like, "Okay, well, I'm good now." So there's going to be tremendous amounts of conflict that comes from that and there's going to be a lot of aftermath dealing with the shocking revelation and there's going to be a lot of crazy new stuff thrown into the mix. I think we're going to see some new characters very early on, introduced in our first episode back. There's going to be a lot of cool stuff coming up.

SyFy developing Booster Gold pilot

All that glitters ...
From the future to your TV screen.

Syfy plans to air a one-hour pilot for Booster Gold, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Lacey Rose writes in an exclusive:
The story will center on Booster Gold, a washed-up athlete from the future who travels back to the present in hopes of becoming the greatest super hero of all time. Instead of chasing criminals, however, his main priority is chasing fame and money. But Booster Gold discovers that being a hero takes more than just a megawatt smile, and that the future doesn’t happen without first protecting the present.
Behind the project are Greg Berlanti's Berlanti Productions, in association with Warner Horizon Television, and Andrew Kreisberg as writer and executive producer. Berlanti and Kreisberg have enjoyed success working together on "Warehouse 13."

Frankly, we always found the comic book character to be uninteresting, unsympathetic and definitely unlikeable. But maybe Berlanti and Kreisberg can pull this off and bring a piece of the DC universe to TV.

A Dr. Who holiday shopping list

Trust us - it may fit on your desk, but it's bigger on the inside.
Just in time for Black Friday, the folks at Syfy have compiled "12 timey-wimey holiday gifts for your favorite Doctor Who fan." Click on the link for details, but take our word for it - easily the best on the list is a miniature TARDIS with sound effects. Also curiously cool: The Time Lord Psychic Container.

Happy Birthday Doctor Who

Happy 48th Birthday to the greatest television show of all time.  The best in sc i- fi and still going strong.  Happy Birthday Doctor!!!!

Playing the role of Barbara Gordon ... do you really want to know?

We have an autographed version of this Batgirl photograph.
Yes, we're talking a possible Major Spoiler for "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises." But do not worry - we promise not to give anything away until after the jump.

Everyone knows the main characters - Christian Bale returning as the Caped Crusader and Gary Oldman as Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon. If you've been paying any attention at all, you know Anne Hathaway appears as Catwoman and the villain is Bane, portrayed by Tom Hardy.

But the folks at The Dark Knight Rises Rumors - WARNING: Clicking that link will reveal the surprise, too - have been busy digging a little deeper. Evidence suggests that the film will introduce another character from the comics - Barbara Gordon, daughter of the commissioner. She's also Batgirl, of course (if you consider that a spoiler, turn in your cowl right now). And, later, she became Oracle.

What leads the people at Rumors to this conclusion? The photograph of a trailer door on the New York City set.

Director Christopher Nolan discusses the finale in his Batman trilogy

Third time's the harm?
Christopher Nolan opening up about "Batman: The Dark Knight Rises"?

Hard to believe, isn't it? And while the secretive director is not giving away too many details, he is finally talking about his much-anticipated third - and final - installment in the series. As he told Empire Magazine:
"It's really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne's story. We left him in a very precarious place. Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after The Dark Knight. So he's an older Bruce Wayne; he's not in a great state.
"With Bane, we're looking to give Batman a challenge he hasn't had before. With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we're testing Batman both physically as well as mentally."

Patrick Stewart, Tia Carrere, Ron Ely and a ringing cell phone help make SuperMegaFest a success

Patrick Stewart signs autographs at SuperMegaFest.
For me, the best part of any convention is The Surprise Factor.

Last year at Philadelphia Comic Con, for example, I was wandering around and happened to see Margot "Lois Lane" Kidder signing autographs. She had been a late addition to the guest lineup that I would not have known about if I had simply followed the original outline of appearances and signings. Not only did I get her autograph, we had a delightful conversation.

Something similar happened Saturday at SuperMegaFest in Framingham, Mass. The headliner was Patrick "Jean Luc Picard" Stewart, and he did not disappoint the large crowd. Despite pre-purchasing our tickets and arriving early, we waited in line for about an hour just to gain entrance. The wait was buoyed by pleasant conversation with other people in line, and by the unexpected sighting of Stewart arriving and getting on an elevator. Once inside, we immediately joined the line for the first autograph session, waiting for perhaps another hour to meet the captain from "Star Trek: The Next Generation." We also purchased tickets for his afternoon question-and-answer session.

How about owning a copy that was autographed, in person, by Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill? The three actors did exactly that at a London store on Monday.

J.J. Abrams triumphed where Joe Paterno failed

J.J. Abrams on the set of "Star Trek."
Never thought you'd see those two names in the same headline, did you?

After all, what could Hollywood writer and director J.J. Abrams possibly have in common with Joe Paterno, the legendary college football coach who recently was fired amid the furor over the child sex-abuse scandal at Penn State. The case is complicated, in case you've been somehow ignoring it, but Paterno lost his job because some people believe he failed to act properly when he learned a longtime former assistant coach, Jerry Sandusky, allegedly was caught molesting a young boy.

That's a very simplified and toned-down version of the story. If you want to make yourself sick, you can read the grand jury report by clicking here.

Back to Abrams.

This past week, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times by Dawn Chmielewski and Harriet Ryan, Abrams was instrumental in Los Angeles Police launching an investigation into a convicted child molester who had changed his name and was casting actors, including young children, for movies.

Karen Gillan on Amy Pond: 'Once she's gone, she's gone'

Memories of Amy
No one in science fiction dies, but Karen Gillan seems intent on burying Amy Pond for good whenever the popular character's run ends on "Dr. Who."

Gillan recently said she thought Amy should be killed off as part of her final good-bye.

Now the actress is closing the TARDIS door on some of sci-fi's favorite tricks for bringing back supposedly dead characters - time travel, flashbacks, etc. She told The Brilliant Book of Doctor Who 2012:
"Death would be an option. I don't want Amy to pop up again every so often, because for me it would take away from the big, emotional goodbye.
"Once she's gone, she's gone. I want people to remember the Amy Pond era as a good one."

  • Exact replica belt buckle
  • Back kick pleat with hidden buttons
  • Double-breasted closure
  • Functional inside and outside pockets
  • Non-wool fabric (actor John Barrowman is allergic to wool!)
  • It is 80 per cent polyester and 20 per cent nylon

The Rock vs. Monsters

Wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will star in a movie adaptation of the parody comic book series "The Monster Hunters’ Survival Guide.," according to sciencefiction.com.

The comic book series, published by Zenescope Comics, is “a comprehensive guide to hunt monsters, the undead and unnatural beasts, and survive the confrontations.”

No other details were available, including a timeline for the project. But it could be a while because Johnson currently is working on "G.I. Joe: Retaliation," and already has lined up roles in "Switch" and an adaptation of the Biblical "David and Goliath."

Supernatural - How to Win Friends and Influence Monsters (Spoilers)

Sam, Dean and Bobby are investigating gruesome deaths in New Jersey. A lot of strange things are not adding up. Speaking of strange, why is Dean acting it?

Grimm - Marathon on SyFy

In case you have missed this new series, the SyFy Channel will be airing a mini marathon of the 4 episodes that have already aired on NBC Friday nights.  This series shows promise and is interesting but perhaps not very original.  For me I am still watching but have not been blown away by anything just yet.  The marathon is on Tuesday starting at 7pm on the SyFy Channel.

Prophets of Science Fiction

A bit late on this but the Science Channel is showing a series called Prophets of Science Fiction.  The hour long shows each cover an author or creator of some of the best Sci-Fi in our history and displays how their work made accurate predictions of today's world.

The series has already aired two episodes with more to come.  Here is a link to the episodes and air dates and times.  The series is on Wednesdays 10pm but they are repeated throughout the week.

Avengers Movie Posters

Here comes the beginning of the advertising campaign.

Alex Kingston From Last Nights Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson

Missing: Amazing Fantasy No. 15 (not to mention some common sense)

Have you seen this comic?
A comic book fan in Nebraska apparently forgot one of the first rules of collecting: With great collections come great responsibility.

OK, we made that up.

But this is true: a $15,000 Spider Man collector's edition comic book is missing from a Lincoln, Neb., home, according to the Lincoln Star Journal. The newspaper reported:
The man said he had it with other comic books, but several people had been in and out of the house since he last saw it.
Amazing Fantasy No. 15, the first comic to feature Spidey, sold for 12 cents in 1962. In May, a mint condition edition sold for $1.1 million.

And the guy left the comic where someone could just walk off with it? Well, we know it wasn't Kraven the Hunter because he's dead.

DC Comics Releasing Batman Beyond Unlimited Digitally Before Print

Cover to Batman Beyond Unlimited 1
In what is something entirely new for DC Comics they will be releasing Batman Beyond Unlimited monthly which is in fact collecting the chapters that will be released first digitally.  This is something that will please the digital fans and also be gratifying to the Batman Beyond fans.  The thing that has me worried is this a precursor to things to come for the comic book industry.  I hope not as I still enjoy reading the printed form and do not want to make the next step right now.   You can read more about this here.

Erica Durance to play Wonder Woman ... but don't get too excited

What - Adrianne Palicki was too busy?
Finally - Erica Durance will play Wonder Woman.

OK, not really.

The Canadian actress first wore the costume of an "Amazon princess" as Lois Lane on "Smallville," which left many fans clamoring for the real thing. Now she will return to the comic book character for an episode of NBC's "Harry's Law."

But it's not that simple. According to TVLine, Durance will play a "“a psychologically infirm woman who retreats into the persona of the DC Comics heroine to help wreak revenge on perpetrators of domestic abuse.”

Not quite the same thing, is it?

No air date has been set.

Hobbit Trailer At Christmas Time Says Andy Serkis

In an interview with IGN Andy Serkis let it out that the Hobbit trailer will hit sometime around Christmas.  Here's what he said

“There will be a trailer fairly soon, actually. Around Christmas time, I believe.”
So the only question remains which movie do we have to see to catch The Hobbit trailer.  My guess is Tin Tin which Peter Jackson is producing.

The Official Doctor Who Convention

Here is a bit of news we were late to post.  Next year BBC Worldwide will be putting on the first offical Dr Who convention called the Ultimate Dr Who Fan Event.  Steven Moffat and Matt Smith have already been confirmed as appearing at the Wales Millenium Centre on March 24 and 25th.  Here are some details.

Autograph and photo opportunities will also be available with attending cast members and there will be official Doctor Who merchandise and collectables on sale.

Convention attendees will be let into the secrets of Doctor Who special effects as Danny Hargreaves and his talented team, reveal the tricks used to create the stunning physical effects that leave audiences on the edge of their seats. Watch them recreate a spectacular battle scene with live pyrotechnics, amazing explosions and laser effects.Even more tricks of the trade will be unveiled by the award-winning Millennium FX team responsible for creating some of Doctor Who’s most iconic monsters including the Silence; the Silurians; the Weeping Angels and the Ood. Convention attendees will also be able to get up close and personal with rare costumes and props from the show where designers and experts will be on hand to answer questions about the origins and history of the items on show. The Millennium Centre itself has starred in several episodes – it was the setting for a hospital in New Earth in Series 2 run by the cat-like Sisters of Plentitude, in Tom McRae’s episode The Girl Who Waited in Series 6 the building featured as a principle location on Apalapucia – the kindness facility where people were quarantined, see if you can spot the top floor balcony where Amy fought with a Handbot!

'Dr Who' being developed as movie franchise by 'Harry Potter' director

"Lights, camera ... action" for Matt Smith?
"Dr. Who" is headed to the big screen, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Borys Kit reported Monday that "Harry Potter" director David Yates is being developed as a movie franchise. The project is very early in the process; writes are being sought.

Kit wrote that the movie would not be connected to the TV show, which raises all sorts of questions about casting. Does this mean Matt Smith has no shot at the starring role? Or that they could choose to bring back David Tennant?

Yates is best-known for directing four movies in the Potter series: "Order of the Phoenix," "Half-Blood Prince," and "Deathly Hallows Part 1" and "Part 2."

Mini Episode Of Dr Who For Children In Need.

Over at the Dr Who News Page they have unearthed that not only will a clip from this years Christmas Special be aired (between 8:00 and 8:30) during this years Children In Need but there now appears to be a mini episode as well. Here is the transcript that Doctor Who Twitter Feed sent out.

14:44 There's an extra special treat for Doctor Who fans on Friday’s
Children in Need... Or at least there will be if things
      go according to plan!
15:25 Hurray! Things ARE going according to plan! Steven Moffat’s mini-script has just hit the in-boxes of a lucky few... Must look over shoulders…
16:44 Great! We can confirm that Matt Smith will be back in
the bow-tie soon because the Doctor returns on Friday night
      in Children in Need.
17:59 We’ve seen the short script and it is NOT what you’d expect.
Oh, it’s funny and fast and Doctorish and brilliant...
      but not what you’d expect...

Sounds great so check out Children In Need  (UK Only) this Friday and make sure you donate to this worthy cause.

Michael J. Fox - not Marty McFly - playing 'Johnny B. Goode'

Back to the future, indeed.

Over the weekend, actor Michael J. Fox strapped on a Gibson to recreate his "Johnny B. Goode" scene from "Back to the Future." The occasion was the annual "Michael J. Fox Foundation fundraiser — A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Cure Parkinson’s."

Making the event even cooler, it fell on the 56th anniversary of "The Enchantment Under The Sea" dance in the film.
Thanks to The Daily What for the tip.

Carrie Fisher takes on William Shatner

Princess Leia vs. Captain Kirk?

No, it's not some sort of alternative-universe fan fiction. It happened. On our very own planet.

In September, William Shatner posted a video in which he talked about why "Star Trek" is better than "Star Wars."

On Friday, Carrie Fisher fired back. Among her retorts:

"My space buns were so much better than Nimoy’s ears” she said. Can't argue with that.

You can find Shatner's original video after the jump.
