Steven Moffatt & Carol Skinner On The New Series

Matt, Karen & Arthur Talk About Asylum of the Daleks

American Horror Story Season 2 Promos

There have been quite a few short promos for the new season of American Horror Story.  Most of these are very weird and disturbing.  I am looking forward to this reboot of the series - promises to be just as weird and sick as the previous one.

Fringe Final Season Promo

New Robot TV Series Being Developed

Writer Josh Friedman (Terminator : Sarah Connor Chronicles) and Producer Howard Gordon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X-Files and 24) are working with 20th Century Fox on a new Sci-Fi project for NBC.  The premise deals with a future where human looking robots are commonplace and a potential robot rebellion is brewing.

Sounds a bit like I, Robot and some other Issac Asimov stories.

Geek Movies From The Summer of 1982 - E.T. The Extra Terrestrial

E.T The Extra Terrestrial was indeed the big money maker of the summer of 1982. E.T. was a movie with a PG rating and a family movie that everyone went to see over and over again.  In fact I know for a fact that my parents took me and my brothers to see this movie way back in 1982.  Yes it’s all coming back to me the Reeses Pieces, the tears, the bike flying and trying to do the same.

Avengers VS X-Men Cover For Issue 12 Promises Us "The End"

October's Avengers VS X-Men issue 12 cover offers us that something big is gonna come out of it.  It looks to me that Dark Phoenix will be making a return.  To me the image on the cover looks like Hope Summers who this story has been centered around since issue #0.  Well we'll find out October 3rd when this issues hits the shops.

Geek Movies From The Summer of 1982 - The Thing

Here is a movie that I watched 30 years ago and did not like.  I often harass ShadoKP about it all the time.   I tease him all the time about it mainly because he is a big John Carpenter fan and I’m not.  Plus I love the original The Thing which starred James Arness and was actually called The Thing From Another World and was released in 1951.

So for my voyage through the eight geek movies of the summer of 1982 I hemmed and hawed about watching it again.  It was a long time since I watched it quite possible 30 years since the last time.  Well I did and you know what?  I might have been wrong about this movie and a certain someone will be teasing me now.

Air Date Confirmed for Red Dwarf X

At least Dave doesn't keep fans guessing when their shows are going to air. It was announced yesterday that Red Dwarf 10 will be on Thursday October 4, 2012.  No time has been announced yet but at least we know what day it will be on.

Remembering The Movies of 1982 - The Beastmaster by Dr. Shay Fabbro

A year of big hair, acid wash, Aqua Net, and blue eye shadow. Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder serenaded us with “Ebony and Ivory” and Survivor rocked us with “Eye of the Tiger.

Yes, That is really me.

It was also the year of some damn good movies. It seems as though a gazillion movies came out in 1982. Some I’ve never even heard of but there are a plethora of films that I have not only seen but actually own copies of.

Godzilla Behind the Scenes Photos

Good Luck To All

SHIELD TV Series

As suspected, an Avengers related TV show was in the works and it was announced that ABC will be bringing us SHIELD.  The TV series will include Joss Whedon as writer and director (at least on some of the episodes.)  It is uncertain how connected this series would be to the movie franchise and whether any actors would appear on the show.

Geek Movies From The Summer of 1982 - Poltergeist

Poltergeist was a movie that was billed as being really scary.  I remember my Dad renting this movie from the video store to watch one evening.  I wasn’t too impressed with it back in the 80’s (not sure if I saw it in 1982) and was kind of hesitant watching this Steven Spielberg written and produced (some say directed but that is a conspiracy theory of sorts) film again. But for the sake of the Summer of 82 reviews I marched on.

Writing and Insomnia By Dr Shay Fabbro

Do all writers have insomnia?

Or does insomnia give rise to writers?

This is sort of like the chicken and the egg thing isn't it? :D

Wish I could sleep like this!

I've read posts on Facebook, blogs, and even Tweets on Twitter where authors speak of their lack of sleep, early hours to make time to write, inability to fall asleep, even waking up in the middle of the night to jot down so juicy tidbit that leaked through their subconscious into their conscious mind.

It seems as though authors, in some form or another, suffer from lack of sleep. Now, sometimes this comes as a choice they make. When it comes to juggling a full time job, kids, and finding time to write, often times this leaves only the late night hours or the wee hours of the morning. And some authors even seem to do their best work in these quiet, secluded hours.

Now, I bet you're wondering, "Does Dr. Fab suffer from insomnia?"

Geek Movies From The Summer of 1982 - The Road Warrior

Here we have the post-apocalyptic movie entry for the Summer of 82.  The Road Warrior stars a young leather clad Mel Gibson.  A Mel Gibson years away from making it big in Lethal Weapon and years away from revealing himself to be the complete nut job we all know him to be now.  But first he is starring in the sequel to 1979’s Mad Max.

A Clockwork Orange - Movie and Blu-Ray Review

A Clockwork Orange

Review of the movie and Blu Ray release

By Ken Parker

Last year I worked on my top 25 Sci-Fi movies of all time and said then that my top lists tend to be fluid and constantly change.  This change is based on recent viewings of movies that I have seen before as well as new releases.  During the posting of my list I changed it a number of times and found up to this point several movies that perhaps should have been on that list but weren’t.  A Clockwork Orange may be one of those movies.

Author of The Chosen and Alexis Davenport Series Dr. Shay Fabbro Interview

Dr. Shay Fabbro contacted us to do a couple of posts for The Knights Blog, as she loves our site, and we found out that she has a book coming out.  In fact that book comes today!!!  Her book is called The Chosen which is Book One of Portals of Destiny.   Luckily Dr. Shay Fabbro was kind enough to take time out of her busy schedule to talk to us and answer a few questions.

Tells us a little about yourself and how you got hooked on the geek culture?

I think it’s coded in my DNA. From a young age I was into bugs and nature, read fantasy (mainly Piers Anthony and Tolkien), watched the original Star Trek with my dad, and grew up watching movies like Legend, Labyrinth, Willow, Princess Bride, Dark Crystal. From there it was a fast spiral into geekdom and I’ve never looked back!

What were some of the authors that influenced your writing style?

Oh goodness, this is always a tough one since I am nowhere NEAR as good as my favorite authors so I always fear they’ll feel insulted ;) But I would have to say Tolkien for sure, Terry Goodkind, George RR Martin.

Tell us about your Young Adult series the Alexis Davenport Adventures?

Cloud Atlas - A Book Review (Some Spoilers)

Novel by David Mitchell

Review by Ken Parker

In my search for good contemporary Sci-Fi novels, I came across David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas and right away I had remembered that this book is being turned into a movie for release later this year.  With my interest peaked, I tackled this book and what I found was a highly original and refreshing read.

Some spoilers

Star Wars - Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith 3-D Release Dates

The 3-D version of Attack of the Clones will be out on September 20, 2013 and a few weeks later on October 11, Revenge of the Sith will be released in 3-D theaters.  I'll probably skip these but I may go see the original trilogy in 3-D - maybe....

Ben Affleck NOT directing Justice League movie

Well, we still have "Hollywoodland."
Remember when we reported on the rumor that Ben Affleck might be in line to direct the Justice League movie?

Uh, the stories were wrong. Hard to believe, isn't it?

Affleck shot down the speculation himself, telling 24 Hours Vancouver:
“I’m not working on the Justice League. One of the problems with entertainment web sites is that they need to fill pages, and that’s how rumors get started…Justice League sounds really exciting, but it’s not something I’m working on.”

Ren Zelen Interview

Multimedia is full of talented people.  There are authors and artists that are out there that have produced some really good stuff.  One of those talented people is Ren Zelen.  Ren is an author and reviewer.  She has a book out on Amazon for kindle The Hathor Diaries which you can buy at this link. Amazon Kindle Store Hathor Diaries She also has a website where you can read Pitchfork Red and all her other short stories and its called Lethal Lexicon .  So here is Ren to answer a few questions about her work.

Describe to us about your digital book The Hathor Diaries and how you came up with idea?

I got the idea for 'Hathor Diaries' while listening to the 'Danger Days' album by My Chemical Romance. I was intrigued by the idea of survival in a post-apocalyptic desert world and the possible politics and conflicts of that world as survivors divided into 'tribes' or groups that had different agendas and plans for how civilisation should be rebuilt, and the means they might employ in their struggle for power or supremacy.  Also, I wondered what physical effects the weapons deployed in the 'resource wars' might have had on the worst affected parts of the population - the mutations that might ensue. I wanted the writing to be very descriptive and 'cinematic' and have an element of horror.

How did Pitchfork Red come about and will it be finished someday?

I plan to finish 'Pitchfork Red' as soon as I have the opportunity to sit down and get on with it. Editing commitments and recent personal events have encroached on my time, but I hope to get around to it soon. The next few chapters are already in my head and I need to get them written down. Besides, I miss my protagonists, I want to see what happens to them myself!

My Top 10 Superhero Movies - Part One

My Top 10 Superhero Movies

By Kenneth Parker

Part 1 – 10 - 6

With Superhero movies accounting for a huge part of thje movie box office over the past few years, one cannot ignore their influence and perhaps can identify a time where they might over saturate the market. With a record number of hero movies currently being worked on including Man of Steel, Thor 2, Iron Man 3, Captain America 2, The Avengers 2, Ant-Man, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Daredevil, The Amazing Spiderman 2, Justice League, Shazam, the Flash, Green Arrow, Lobo, The Suicide Squad and so on, one has to look at a best of list as a very temporary list for sure. This list will no doubt change drastically over the next couple of years.

Because of my very successful Top 25 Sci-Fi article series (i.e. I actually finished it) I figured it was time to tackle superhero movies. I did not include any superhero movies in the sci-fi category as there are enough for them to have their own list. Unlike my Sci-fi list, I have decided to post this list in two parts.

My rules for inclusion on this list are as follows -

I need to have seen the film – obviously. The film has to be a story about a superhero (superheroes) with special abilities and/or a character(s) that is attempting to do good by fighting crime as a superhero. Anyway, the selection of movies was pretty easy and I just took the list from Wikipedia.

I had to leave off some really good films and like any of my lists, are always subject to change.

So here we go.....

Para Time - New Series By Matthew Graham

Life On Mars (The original British one) creator Matthew Graham is working with the Fox Network on a new series idea about a group who polices parallel worlds.  Para Time sounds like a bit of Sliders and Fringe.

This sounds a lot like H.Beam Piper's Paratime series of short stories and novels.

If this show is half the quality of the Life On Mars then it is going to be fantastic.

Star Wars: Detours

This looks good!! Airing on Cartoon Network soon.

Director Joss Whedon talks about working with Chris Evans (Captain America) and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk).

A guy who helped kill Osama bin Laden also helped design 'Medal of Honor: Warfighter'

He's dead, Jim.
Sometimes, art really does imitate life. Hero Complex reports something that sounds like an improbable movie plot:

The Tier One U.S. Navy soldier who participated in the raid that killed Osama bin Laden last year and identified by name Thursday by Fox News is a consultant for an upcoming game published by Electronic Arts titled “Medal of Honor: Warfighter,” according to a person close to the matter. The person declined to be identified because of a confidentiality agreement.

The soldier is Matt Bissonnette, who retired last summer from the Navy. The 36-year-old Alaska resident has written a book on the May 2, 2011 raid, "No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission That Killed Osama Bin Laden," under the name Mark Owen.

Stan Lee smashes The Hulk, predicts the future and remembers 'Insect Man'

A legendary one-two punch - Stan Lee and Spidey.

When it comes to comic book movies, it sometimes seems like we are living in Stan Lee's universe. The comics legend helped create Spider-Man, the Hulk, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, Iron Man and Thor, to name just a few. And one of the small treats for seeing the Hollywood versions of the characters is that Lee usually has a cameo, including this summer's "The Avengers." But, as Lee recently told the audience at Fan Expo Canada, even he is not a big fan of some of the movies.

"I would have liked the Hulk to be smaller in the first two movies, and I didn't like the way Doctor Doom was portrayed in 'Fantastic Four,' Now with Daredevil, they just wrote the whole thing wrong. They made him too tragic. That's not the way I wrote him. I think they're working on a new Daredevil movies and it will be better, so hold your judgment until then."

Lee also hinted about future film projects:

"Deadpool is such a popular character, I'd be surprised if he wasn't in his own movie in the near future, or introduced in another movie first. They're thinking about a Doctor Strange movie, a Black Panther movie, an Ant-Man movie -- there's just so many ideas in the works right now at Marvel!"
And he talked about a character that was an early idea for Spider-Man:
"When I created him, it was tough. We already had a Hulk, we already had the X-Men, we had the Fantastic Four, so I thought I'd go the insect route. But Insect-Man didn't sound right, and neither did Mosquito-Man. But then it came to me...Spider-Man! Happy 50th Spidey!"

The Geek Movies From The Summer Of 1982

The summer of 1982 has been heralded as one, if not the best, summer for movies.  Hell the whole damn year was pretty awesome for movies.   Films like Ghandi, Tootsie,  The Dark Crystal, 48Hrs and An Officer and A Gentlemen.  Heck a certain action hero had two movies out that year as Sylvester Stallone starred in Rocky 3 and brought Rambo to us for the first time in First Blood.   Stalwarts like Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson had movies out also with Firefox and Death Wish 2.  But I’m going to focus on a particular geek selection of movies that came out during the summer movie season. Now there won’t be any reviews in this article but more of a remembrance.  The reviews will come later and be more in depth.  Now let’s go back 30 years to 1982 and remember that summer of some of the finest movies to hit the geek world.
